What is Celebrate Recovery?
Simply put, Celebrate Recovery is a program dedicated to giving freedom from life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. More specifically, Celebrate Recovery is based around the “8 Recovery Principles” pioneered in 1991 by Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. On their webpage Saddleback describes the ministry this way:
“The purpose of Saddleback Valley Community Church´s Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God´s healing power in our lives through the “8 Recovery Principles.” This experience allows us to “be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God´s grace in solving our lives´ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.”
Celebrate Recovery is not just another twelve-step program. Celebrate Recovery combines the accountability and support of small groups with the promises of God’s Word like no other program to bring real healing to people and entire communities. So far Celebrate Recovery has brought healing to over 700,000 people and is in around 19,000 churches worldwide.
Of the many people who regularly attend Celebrate Recovery only about 1 in 3 are there for drug and alcohol addictions. So, why are the other two people there? They are there because Celebrate Recovery is about more than overcoming an addiction to drugs or alcohol. It is about transforming lives and building relationships with God and those around us. Through this transformation God can heal the person, instead of just the hurts.

Interested in joining us?
A great way to get started is to join us for our Friday night Open Share meeting. Our Friday nights start at 6:30 pm with light snacks for adults and a meal for children served as a part of our Celebration Station ministry where our youngest participants can receive these life changing principles on a level they can manage. After light snacks and conversation we move into the Large Group meeting from 7 to 8 pm for either a lesson or testimony (alternating weeks) to encourage and guide us on the ‘road to recovery’.
After this time of learning and encouragement we move to gender-specific Open Share groups. These small groups are a safe place for each participant of the group to share about their week, how their walk in recovery is going, or to just be encouraged again by others sharing about their walk towards a healthier lifestyle with Jesus Christ.
Finally at the end of the night we encourage participants to join us for Solid Rock Café. This is a time for everyone to fellowship or make the connections and lasting friendships that can be instrumental in supporting one another as we find freedom from the hurts, habits, and hang-ups of life.
